You have been fitted with a retainer now that your braces have been removed. A retainer holds your teeth in their new positions while the bones and gums adapt to the change.
- Your retainer is to be worn at all times, unless otherwise instructed by Dr. Vecere.
- Wear your retainer while eating.
- A denture adhesive can be used, if you have trouble keeping your retainer in.
- Your appliance should not be worn while swimming, since it can easily be lost in the water. When you are not wearing it, always keep your retainer
in its case. Keep it out of reach of pets (they love to chew them). Do not wrap it in a napkin.
- You can clean your retainer with a firm bristle brush and toothpaste or a denture cleaner (e.g. Efferdent). If the acrylic discolors or there are (white) deposits (this is tartar) soak the retainer in white vinegar and then scrub with a brush.
- If you lose your retainer it must be replaced with a new one at an additional charge payable in advance.
This final part of treatment is as important as the first. Without the retainer, your teeth would soon go back or relapse toward their old positions.
We have both invested much time and effort in your result. If you have a problem with your retainer or unusual discomfort, please do not hesitate to call the office.
